Miracle Blanket

We got a miracle blanket after having several people tell us how awesome it is. We tried it out last night and it was pretty sweet. He would eat and go back to sleep pretty quickly. The blanket makes it easy to swaddle him, but it didn't perform any miracles. He's still eating every 2 to 3 hours.

He knows

I think this is a skill that all babies know. They know when you are eating and are determined to not let you finish a meal. But I don't mind as long as he gives me a smile.

Loving It

Isaac loves being carried around, he doesn't seem to care what kind of carrier as long as he is close to us.

He has also grown to love baths. While he was bathing Daisy made herself comfortable too.

I thought I was good at...

changing diapers, but I've come to realize that I'm not. I've changed plenty of diapers in the past and haven't had problems, but they weren't newborns. It seems that Isaac and I have issues changing his diaper at 2am. So far in the 2 weeks he's been home I've been peed on, the wall has been peed on, and he has also peed in his own eye. A few times we have gone through 3 diapers in one changing due to more poo than expected or peeing several times before the changing is over. On the other hand David is great at changing diapers and has rescued me a few times.
He's still a little small for this baby carrier that my mom and I made.

Events for the day

We tried tummy time on this blanket but Isaac wasn't as into it as the dogs were.
Isaac has been joining us for dinner this week. Hopefully family dinners are something we can continue to do.
This is what he looks like when Granny dresses him. I think his pants are pulled as high as they can go.

Quality Time

David and I were able to go out on a date without Isaac on Friday while Granny babysat. David and I had a wonderful time spending a couple of hours at Babies'R'Us.
I'm also trying to start some routines in Isaac's schedule. The first one is to read a book after a bath and before before bed. It's amazing that this 3 week old is interested in looking at books as we read them to him.
I also love The First Year Week by Week. It had great ideas on how to play with your infant, what he/she may be learning, and how they are developing.
I was trying to do a post a day but fell behind this weekend, due to a lack of sleep. Sorry to those family members that check us out daily.

Miracle Grow

Similac is the equivalent to Miracle Grow for Isaac. This outfit fit him this morning when he got dressed.

Fresh and Clean

Isaac had his first tub bath last night and he didn't particularly like it, he did stop crying immediately when I got his head wet and was washing his hair. The dogs were wanting to drink the water and wondering why he was screaming. Isaac was relieved when the whole thing was over.

Belated Blogoversary

I missed my blogoversary, but for a very good reason. I started this blog last year to announce our that we were expecting Baby Huang, but missed the blogoversary due to Isaac's arrival. We are truly blessed with Isaac, he is the sweetest, calmest baby and we couldn't ask for a better baby. We are also blessed with how well the dogs are adjusting. Believe it or not but Dorito's bark doesn't wake Isaac. God has blessed us.

Breastfeeding...

So easy a cave woman can do it, right?
Think again. My breast milk doesn't give him enough calories or I'm not producing enough.
Isaac had a weigh-in last Friday at 7.145 pounds. We then brought him back for a weight-in on Wednesday and he was down to 7.14 pounds. That means he lost a half an ounce over 5 days when he should be gaining half and ounce every day now. The doctor instructed me to supplement with formal again, the first time was for his jaundice until my milk came in. We took him back to the doctor today for another weight-in and he is now up to 8.03 pounds. That a gain of 5 ounces in two days. He's going to be a big boy if he keeps that up. I know I should just enjoy him and not worry about how he's getting nutrition as long as he's getting it, but I want to give him the best.
On another note, he's only 11 days old and I can already tell he's growing up. He fits in an outfit, that he didn't just a few days ago. He also lost his umbilical cord yesterday. I thought when it fell off, he would have a regular belly button, but it's still scabby and yucky looking. He loves his mobile and I love the gDiapers. He started to get a rash with some disposables we were given and the rash is clearing up fast with the gDiaper.

Who are you?

Isaac Evander Huang
Isaac comes from the Bible story in Genesis, the son of Sarah and Abraham. We gave a hint to his name with the verse to the side. Isaac means "he will laugh." Evander was my grandfather's name and it means "good man." Isaac's Chinese name is Jie which means hero or outstanding. 杰

Jaundice be gone

I'm soooo happy he is off the bili-blanket. His levels have started to go down and I finally get to just hold him. He seems to be pretty happy about it too.
