Date Day

We got to have a Saturday all day date. It was like we were still dating again. We started out the morning by playing a few rounds of laser tag. That was the funnest laser tag ever. David was worn out by the third round so I scrapped the rest our of plans for the day, which would have included rock climbing and indoor trampoline fun. Instead we went to the mall, which I don't think I've been to within the past 10 years. Got massages and shopped a bit. Then went to Dave and Busters and racked up some tickets, which led us to bringing home some prizes for the boys. It's weird now that we have to get two of everything so there's no fight over a toy. We also stopped at the bank and finally have a joint account that we both use.

Making crayons

I told Isaac that after Nolan went down for the night we could use the broken crayons to make new ones. He was so excited that when it came time to start peeling them, he jumped right it and started breaking the newer ones. He had so much fun doing this that and I learned a few things through the process, that I'm now on the hunt or fun silicone molds. Tips: They are really hard to get out of metal pans, even if you spray with pam or put a a few teaspoons of oil in first. A few teaspoons of oil in the pan first works way better than spraying with pam.

What is he thinking?

This is something Isaac built and I have no idea what's going on in his mind, even after he explains it to me.

Will it Waffle

I saw something somewhere about putting cinnamon rolls in a waffle maker and it looked good to me. So I tried it, and it's ok. My kids liked it because it makes them crunchy and don't get your hand dirty. Here's a blog that my sister in law found if you are interested in waffling other things. http://www.waffleizer.com/

Double Date night

For the first time ever we got to go on a double date with my friend Shannon and her husband. We've gone out seperately, I with Shannon and David with Ryan. This was so much fun and I hope we get to do it again.

Determined

David was able to join us at the zoo after work and it was wonderful to spend this time together as a family. In one of the bird houses we got up close and fed them. Isaac was such a sweet heart and picked up everyones trash and put it in the trashcan. Nolan on the other hand was determined to catch a bird. Even after one bit his finger, he caught one.

Monkey Baby from the Pregnant Chicken

I was watching a documentary about monkeys a while ago. It followed a troop of monkeys where the dominant female would try to steal the babies of their less dominant counterparts. It was like her primal instincts were just too much to resist and she'd think to herself, "I'm taking that baby. I want it." The other mother would either be strong enough to steal her baby back or she would just have to give in and let the Alpha Female have the baby. (Don't get sad here, I got sad and then I felt like a dummy because this is how shit goes down in the jungle.) C'mon, man. Snakes. Yet, this is the same, exact crap that happens when you have a baby. There always someone dying, just aching, to lend their advice because they have that primal need to take care of every baby they lay their eyes on. This is why I find women are either really helpful or really annoying when you have a newborn. They have that primal need to help. Not you. The baby. And that ain't always the same thing. They want to take that baby and climb high in a tree to make sure that baby isn't subjected to whatever thing they don't subscribe to, like a pacifier, co-sleeping, crying-it-out, etc. Most people have developed a filter to supress this instict and just die a little inside like I did in the grocery store when I heard a newborn crying and I wanted to crash through the cereal aisle like the Kool-Aid Man to save it. However, I don't want to be arrested and/or have a collection of babies in a tree, so I keep it to myself, but you'll sometimes see it seep out of people. You can tell it's squeeking out like a duck fart because they ask your baby things instead of you. Like, "Are you hungry?", "You're so, so tired, my sweet girl." or "Why doesn't your mommy put socks on you? You must be cold!" You are not in the equation, they see a baby in "need" and that's it. When they do this. They are just trying to help. It's instinct kicking in and they want to protect a baby from what they view is something harmful and simply cannot resist it. So I have a new theory. All you have to do is gently, but firmly, hold their arm and whisper, "I know what you're trying to do. You're trying to steal my monkey baby. Don't bother though because, let me tell you something, I am the Alpha Female here so you need to back the hell off and go back to smelling your ass." Granted, it's a little heavy handed, but whether she bows her head submissively to recognize your status, or simply backs away because she's convinced you're nuts, I have the utmost confidence that it will work. By God, it will work. * This isn't the kind of monkey that was in the documentary. I'm not even sure if this is a monkey -- it looks like some type of bad-ass street gibbon, but whatever. If you happen to have seen this documentary and know what kind of monkey it was, please tell me. I've been Googling "Monkey Baby Stealing" with no luck which really shouldn't surprise me.

Crazy Cucumber

This cucumber plant just sprung up in our walkway and it is soooo delicious. I didn't think I'd get any cucumbers this year because when I planted them we were still getting crazy frosts once a week. I'm not sure how this one got it's start, but it might have something to do with Isaac and his seed planting methods.

Wine and Canvas

Here's my Monet from a wine and canvas event that Shannon and I did. This was my first time painting on canvas and it was a lot of fun.

First Muscial

We went to the Children's Museum last weekend and were actually there during a showing of 'How I Became a Pirate.' I've really been wanting to see this and thought that Isaac might like it too. Well, he was a little uneasy at first keeping his eye on these pirates that were all around us, but he get really excited when they brought out there treasure. Of course Nolan liked it, he was his usual chill self. And I loved it.
