Last Wednesday was Previvor Day and I posted this on facebook. Hopefully it spoke to some of the people that read it.

I am a previvor. My journey started started with my mom, Carol Alperin, being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40. Today she is celebrating 11 years being cancer free. With her cancer diagnosis we discovered that we have the BRCA 1 gene mutation, which means that I had an 80%+ chance of getting breast cancer and a 40%+ chance of getting ovarian cancer. I am a previvor because I chose to have a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy in January 2012 to reduce my risk of breast cancer to 3% and my daily worry to 0%. I hope that my story helps others, whether it be motivating you to get a mammogram or just making you aware of previvors.
